One of the most important questions we answer at West Hills Chiropractic Pain Center is: “Is VAX-D right for me?” Not every back pain patient is an ideal VAX-D candidate — but for those who are, the results can be life-changing. After evaluating hundreds of spinal decompression patients at our Huntington, NY office, Dr. Tom Oddo has identified the five clearest signs that VAX-D will work for you.
Sign #1: Your MRI Shows a Disc Problem
VAX-D was specifically designed for disc-related conditions. If your MRI shows a herniated disc, bulging disc, degenerative disc disease, or disc-related stenosis, you are in the primary target population for VAX-D therapy. The stronger the disc component of your condition, the more likely VAX-D is to produce significant improvement. This is the single strongest predictor of VAX-D success.
Sign #2: Your Pain Has a Nerve Component
Shooting pain, sciatica, leg numbness, tingling in the feet, arm pain, or hand weakness — these are signs that a nerve root is being compressed by disc material. VAX-D directly addresses nerve root compression by decompressing the disc pressing on the nerve. If your pain radiates, travels down your leg or arm, or comes with neurological symptoms, VAX-D is likely a strong fit.
Sign #3: Conservative Treatments Haven’t Given You Lasting Relief
Have you tried chiropractic, physical therapy, massage, or injections — and gotten temporary relief at best? This is a classic sign that the disc itself needs to be treated, not just the surrounding muscles and joints. VAX-D fills the gap that other conservative treatments can’t reach by directly decompressing the disc. Many patients who plateaued with other therapies achieve dramatic breakthroughs with VAX-D.
Sign #4: You Want to Avoid Surgery (or Had Surgery and Still Have Pain)
If surgery has been recommended but you’re not ready to go that route, VAX-D is the most powerful non-surgical alternative available. Published data shows over 71% success for disc conditions — a number that compares very favorably to the outcomes of many spine surgeries. If you’ve already had back surgery but still have pain (failed back surgery syndrome), VAX-D may also help, depending on what type of surgery was performed.
Sign #5: Your Pain Has Lasted More Than 6 Weeks
Acute back pain (less than 6 weeks) often resolves on its own with basic care. But if your disc pain has persisted beyond 6 weeks, your body is telling you it cannot heal this without help. Disc tissue has no blood supply and cannot heal through circulation alone — it needs the targeted mechanical rehabilitation that VAX-D provides. Chronic disc pain is one of the strongest indicators that VAX-D is the right intervention.
What Disqualifies Someone from VAX-D?
VAX-D is not appropriate for patients with spinal fractures, spinal tumors, advanced osteoporosis, spinal fusion at the level to be treated, severe aortic aneurysm, or pregnancy. A thorough consultation with Dr. Oddo will confirm your candidacy based on your full medical history and imaging.
